You should apply for a new PR card only if:
♦ Your card has expired or expiring within 9 months.
♦ You have lost your card.
♦ Your card has been stolen or destroyed.
♦ You didn’t receive your card within 180 days after entering Canada.
♦ You have legally changed your name, gender, or citizenship.
♦ You need to correct your date of birth.

You cannot apply for the renewal of PR card if you have been told to leave the Country by the Federal government of Canada.

If you want to keep your permanent residence status in Canada, you should have lived for at least 730 days in Canada in the last 5 years.

Normally, your Permanent Resident Card expires every five years, and you are advised to renew it 30 days prior to the expiry.

• If you already have a passport that is expiring soon, you can renew it easily. It’s much easier than applying to a new one.
   To renew your passport, you must:
  ♦ Fill an online application form.
  ♦ Keep supporting documents and passport-sized photographs ready.
  ♦ Find two references.
  ♦ Submit application and pay fee.
  ♦ Do not forget to send your expiring passport with the application and note that it cannot be used for further travel purposes.
